huruma & soh day

The whole team came to Huruma today to volunteer, and it meant more to me than I can ever fully express. To have so many extra hands to care for and give individual attention to the kids was...the answer to possibly the one of most unselfish prayers I've ever uttered. There were enough people to feed each child carefully and wipe excessively at the corners of their mouths. There were enough hands to smooth wrinkled shirts and to rub backs.

If there's an inundation of pictures it's because I really can't help myself. I can't help but exult in this luxury--that today we could dwell on each of them, linger over them if we wanted. We could do that today.

I shut down later today when we went to Sanctuary of Hope, the rehabilitation home for children rescued from the slums that Mama Hannah helped start. The sight of the healthy, happy children--so well-cared for, able to sing and dance as my children in the special ward never would be able to--cast an ugly shadow over my heart.

Today I really had to say goodbye and leave.
