nashville, part ii

Okay, so I need to at least talk a little about food, right? Of course Nashville isn't the ultimate foodie destination, but that's alright, I was fed in other ways during my stay (er...construe that in whatever way you want). And apparently, Nashville supports gun-free dining. So do I. Pancake Pantry was yummy enough, and the P.P.P.L.T (potato pancake pastrami, lettuce, and tomato) was a bit alarming, but I think Las Paletas did it for me. They don't really do gourmet popsicles here in California. I spent a good amount of time in Hot & Cold, where they serve coffee and tea, and Las Paletas and Jeni's ice cream (hence the name of the place). I had popsicles two days in row, once right after ice cream. We cooked dinner twice and yes, I own up to it--I set the fire alarm off one of those nights when I was making meatballs. I was embarrassed. That's all I'm going to say about that.

But of course the best way I was filled was through the presence of all the people I was surrounded by this past weekend. At the risk of sounding excessively effusive, this weekend was really truly good for my soul. It renewed me and replenished me in ways I didn't realize I was lacking anything. You know, I (and many of my fellow human beings, I'm sure) just complicate things and make a mess of relationships. We forget the joy of being with someone/people. Friends cooking a meal together, some Telephone Pictionary and miscellaneous games...simple and basic and completely satisfying. I am sated.
