staff funsies

One of the perks of being on staff: the other staff.

One of the drawbacks of being on staff: the other staff.

All circumstantial, of course, but the circumstances/God worked in my favor to toss together a staff team whose company I enjoyed to the fullest.

The sessions during Orientation Week (things like "Swahili 101" and "Cultural Faux Pas to Avoid While You're Here") are generally the same year to year, so since all of us had heard it all before, we sometimes skipped out on sessions to just rest (since our time is pretty much all dedicated towards the students and supporting them). This is during one of those truancies. Throughout the whole trip, there are times when it was very isolating and draining to be on staff, because it was never about you and your problems, but about the students', and about how you can be praying for them, affirming them, etc. etc. (I'm not complaining). Hence, the company of the other staff was so fully welcome. We'd swap stories from our previous times in Kenya (we all went different years), poke fun at each other, share feelings, and talk behind the students' backs fervently about how we could better support the students.

Camaraderie. Nothing like it.
