Took a brief foray back to LA just this past Labor Day weekend.
Friday: Skipped around Silver Lake with Hana, avoided the excess of hipsters at Intelligenstia, and foraged for food at...Forage. Let me tell you, having small, cute friends with stalwart style makes you instantly cooler. Hana's pleated, two-toned skirt was the envy of every passerby. (Psst, Hana!--you're going to love your birthday present!).
Going back to LA was worth being able to drive my own car (curses to the bus driver today at school who didn't stop for me!), even if that meant (sub)merging myself into streams of LA traffic.
Saturday: a disgustingly and delightfully suburban family barbecue at my aunt's house. Drowned myself in my aunt's stupendous guacamole and Korean BBQ, watched the Princess Bride with my cousins (the male cousins consented?! Inconceivable!), and perused one page of my assigned readings for English seminar.
And, Sunday: I actually attended Sunday School, if only because I was sharing about my short-term missions trip to Kenya (more on that later), and was smashed together with all my friends in a pew during service...why do we insist in cramming? Pizza for lunch, with the requisite garlic knots.
Drove around during the afternoon and admired the clouds, which became lightning and thunder after dinner with the parents. I crawled outside onto my window's ledge and watched sky light up, rumble, and swirl with clouds.
Hasten along another weekend, please. Lamy is visiting.
